1) "Sonny's Blues"--focus your attention on the story's conclusion and on the protagonist (who, why; why dynamic). But that's not what we did in class. After adding the guilt/responsibility element to Gracie's death, we moved on to imagery/motifs/symbols. Long lists were compiled; only a smattering discussed. But think of these as part of Baldwin's style, and as a significant element of this particular story. On the whole, much of "Sonny's Blues" is really a do-it-yourself project.
2) Tomorrow, be sure to bring HTRLLAP. Make sure you've read chapters 7-9.
