A Rainy, Low-Key Monday

Sorry about the missing week-end blog . . . I'll try not to be so careless with my Friday afternoons.

TODAY IN CLASS
Good coverage of Gregor's changes over Part I, with solid notes (I hope) on the material we did not get to in class today.

People who were absent today need to make sure you can track Gregor's changes across three broad categories:  physical (sight, hearing, voice, mobility/agililty, and involuntary/instinctive phenomena), mental (focus of thoughts, degree of rationality), and emotional (mood; what actually triggers feelings).  Tomorrow we'll pick up with family dynamics (responses of mother, father, and Grete to Gregor; his appraisal of each of them) and interaction involving the chief clerk (family to clerk, clerk to Gregor, Gregor to clerk).  What do we know about the Samsa family's life together BEFORE the transformation of their son/brother? And study the final moments of Part I very carefully--we'll be looking at parallels with the end of Part II.

FOR TOMORROW
Keep the previously announced schedule in mind:  Part II for Wednesday, Part III for Thursday.
Also work in the next chunk of chapters from Foster:  10-15 by late in the week.
So tonight, do what's best for your schedule.

AND DON'T FORGET the two looming deadlines:
Thursday, Oct. 29:  final draft of the personal essay, with all components listed on the cover sheet
Friday, Oct. 30: resume and typed response to Question #1 to the Career Center.  And remember, I need to sign off on them first.
