TODAY IN CLASS
1) The Epilogue position papers were briefly checked at the beginning of the period and collected at the end
2) Students had time to produce a "paired" response to the first question on this overhead. We discussed the responses fairly thoroughly, and in 1st and 2nd transitioned to overall student responses to yesterday's question about the "worthiness" of the Epilogue. In 3rd we barely got to that point, but will definitely do so as the opener tomorrow. Both the team paper and the homework piece were collected at the end of class.
FOR TOMORROW
Please excuse the funky appearance of the following; I uploaded the document I'd used as an overhead, and I think I need to make changes on it and upload it again for a bette appearance:

Look at the 2nd question, and carefully review that section in your text (Part II, Chapter 5). You won't have class time to do this tomorrow. However, there will be a short time allotted to some group-think, after which I'll expect thorough responses appropriate to close-reading analysis for tone, style, and the writer's craft.
We may or may not do something with Question 3--certainly it's out there for your consideration.
ASSIGNMENT FOR FRIDAY
If you were in class, of course, you received this as a tangible half-sheet of paper, but if you were absent, you can still get started by looking at the appropriate section here. The key, of course, is that this is not a full essay, either--but the expectations for solid understanding, perceptive insight, and clear presentation in the format indicated are all high. It's not meant to be a quick and easy "toss-off" assignment.
