TODAY IN CLASS
First, we discussed some of the answers to the prose passage from Monday. By the way, I double-checked the source, and I should have recognized it (though it 's one of those things I haven't ever actually read, even though it is commonly taught in AP classes). The passage comes from Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston.
Second, students had precisely 30 minutes (except for shorting 3rd by three minutes--sorry) to do two more MC passages. As is sometime the case, a given poetry "passage" sometimes has two short poems with 8-10 questions on each.
People who missed class today need to come in ASAP for the make-up (yes, you'll want the full 30 minutes).
FOR TOMORROW
Keep Reading ( Parts V and VI due by MONDAY)
Also review the chapter in which Raskolnikov and Razumikhin go to Porfiry Petrovich’s apartment for a visit (in Part III, Chapter 5):
• Know details of Raskolnikov’s article
• Know the VARIOUS points of view concerning crime that are set forth
• Be very precise about the details of the “extraordinary man” theory
• In the conversation, who seems to believe/argue which points of view?
o Porfiry Petrovich
o Raskolnikov
o Razumikin
In addition, have some ideas about Raskolnikov’s mother/sister/sister’s suitor--both in terms of their respective characters as well as how you see their "functions" (beyond plot) shaping up as the novel continues.
And how are we supposed to regard Svidrigailov?
There's more I'd like to touch on tomorrow, but except for the chapter above, you need to focus energy on continuing to read.
