Poetry Today--and Bring Big Lit Book Tomorrow

Main homework:  Be reading Tess.  You should have the first two parts (Hardy's Phase the First and Phase the Second) completed by tomorrow--it's about 100 pages in most editions.  No quiz tomorrow, but there will likely be one on Wednesday.  So you should still get all or most of the reading done.  There's no room for further adjustments.

If you were in class today, you know that you had a chance to work with two poems using two different approaches to increase your understanding.   And I'm not compelling you to finish the second one at home if you didn't have a chance in class, because reading Tess is the priority.

BUT if you were absent, read "The Emperor of Ice Cream" (Wallace Stevens) and use the TPCASTT section of the pink hand-out from a couple of weeks back.  Then do Elizabeth Bishop's "One Art" and use the "How to Read a Poem" questions.  We used hand-outs today. I think they are both in your big book, but if not, you can look them up.  However do NOT red anything about them.  Just read the poems.
