3rd period only: we will need a few minutes for the group to complete their presentation and for questions/comments. Although I still do not know what went wrong with the computer, I learned at lunch today that Mrs. Maguigad encountered exactly the same difficulty during 6th period yesterday. If it doesn't work tomorrow morning, I'll ask Mr. Pazan to take a look at it after our tech meeting.
Also to 3rd period (plus anyone who hasn't presented yet who was absent today): As we begin the Part II presentations, be wary of "themes" presented as topic/subject areas only. Although some may not be definitive until the very end, you should be offering these as claims that relate to the meaning of the novel as a whole. What is the attitude/opinion associated with the subject area? Ultimately we want to know what Morrison believes, of course, but the pathway starts with the varying attitudes of particular characters.
EVERYONE
Theoretically, everyone should be finished with the reading by now, but in practice, I know that some of you are still reading. Tomorrow is a reading day/get started on your paper day. The getting started, in this case, should involve topic selection, generation of evidence (a very different proposition from finding a few supportive quotations), and deciding if the prospective results are truly worthy of a illuminating paper or if you will need to go back to square one. Here is the paper assignment:

You do not need to print it out unless you intend to start work tonight; you will receive a hard copy in class on Wednesday.
