TODAY IN CLASS
We wrapped up the hand-outs you already had on PL--finishing up one more epic simile in 3rd, finishing up the original Part I excerpt for everyone, and discussing the "Hymn to Light" section in all classes (not quite finishing in 3rd, but coming oh so close.) Those "summa-phrases" were collected in all classes.
HOMEWORK FOR TOMORROW
Go back to this hand-out and review the description of a "Byronic hero"; consider how Satan does/does not fulfill the definition.

There were two new hand-outs. One provides a final set of excerpts from Paradise Lost--

These show Satan's envy after watching Adam and Eve(and eavesdropping on them) during his first surreptitious visit to the Garden of Eden, the summary ("Argument" for Book 9, which you may sometime wish to go back and read, and the context of Adam's speech in Book 10 in which he is griping (whining) about a whole litany of consequences as a result of the choice to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree.
Why that excerpt? Because in the middle of it are the lines Mary Shelley uses on the title page of her novel.
There was also a second hand-out with some brief references to PL in Frankenstein, along with the assignment due on Tuesday. I thought this did not save, but it turns out I'd simply continued from the first document. So even though they were separate hand-outs in class, just keep scrolling down the one linked above and you will find it.
So read this carefully and be prepared to ask any questons about the writing assignment for Monday during class-time tomorrow.
TO BE DOING FOR TUESDAY
Be reading Oedipus Rex/Oedipus the King (whichever title your big lit book uses).
